Ticket sellers at the tube stations in London?
Is there a set time when tube stations are filled with human ticket vendors? The damn machine doesn’t want to take my last pound so I am stuck in Zone 4 and have no way of getting to HSBC to clear my foreign debit card for use in the UK.

No, all I want to be able to do is actually use the money my firm (a UK one) pays me. The same firm who flew me over into your country in the first place.
The further out you go the less chance of finding a human being selling tickets, once you get yourself organised here I’d sort out an Oyster card with auto top-up. I used to get stuck all the time like you, machine doesn’t like my card, notes are too crumpled to be accepted etc, fortunately this doesn’t happen too often any more.
